A. Key Concept of Course: This required course will cover Algebra 1 topics
as outlined by the California State Mathematics Standards for Algebra 1.
B. General Plan for Course: The focus of the course
is to prepare students for both further coursework in both mathematics and science as well as prepare for the CST exam in April/May.
C. Recommended Materials: A binder with paper (spiral or 3-ring) is recommended for this course. A calculator is not required
but can be used for this course. Many students already own one or plan to purchase their own. There will be calculators
avaliable to check out to students. Please notify me if you plan on checking out a calculator so we can have the appropriate
number of calculators ready. Graph paper and color pencils are optional items.

Tutoring/Extra Help: If students need extra, they can atten the free before/after school tutoring in the library.
F. Attendance
Expectations: You are expected to be in class everyday. All School attendance policies as stated in the student handbook will be enforced
at all times (End of Warning). Students are responsible for informing the teacher if an absence is coming up as well as turning in
any assignments due on the day of the absence. Students out for unforseen absences are responsible for getting any notes taken
as well as getting the assignments that were missed. (Ask your fellow students or check the website.)
G. Behavior Expectations: All
School and District Policies as stated in the student handbook and letters from the school/district will be enforced at all times.
(End of Warning). Take off hats as you enter the room. Turn off and put away ALL electronic devices for the
duration of the class.
H. Assignments/Assessments: Your grade will consist of the following elements.
1. We will cover 5 chapters. 80% of your final semester grade will be determined by the grades you earn from the
work you do for these chapters. Each chapter will be broken down in the following manner.
1. Assignments (20%)
2. Quizzes (20%)
3. Chapter exam (both regular and CST style) (60%)
2. You will have a final exam at the end
of the semester. It will cover the entire semester and be worth 15% of the final grade.

The remaining 5% will consist of misc. items.
THOSE WHO ARE TRUANT OR REMOVED FROM
CLASS BY THE TEACHER GET NO MAKEUP ON POINTS LOST DUE TO MISSING CLASS. BEING LATE TO CLASS DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANY EXTRA TIME
FOR EXAMS OR QUIZZES.
While there is NO EXTRA CREDIT for this class, each one of you starts off with a 1% bonus. Go to
page 2 of the guidelines for explination.
J. Citizenship: Citizenship will be assigned as per school policy.
Tardies and Truancies will also be dealt with as per school policy.
