A. Key Concept of Course: This course is a college-prep course in First Year Algebra. The course will follow the outline given by the California State Standards for this course.

B. General Plan for Course: The focus of the course is to prepare students for the May Algebra 1 Standards Exam. It also will prepare students for further work in mathematics. A "D" or better is required to go on to Geometry

C. Course Requirements: Materials needed are pencils and pens, a short ruler, graph paper for notes and assignments, and a scientific calculator.

D. Textbook Used: California Algebra 1 by Glenco

E. Teacher Avaliability: I am in my class for extra help on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at lunch. Other teachers are avaliable at other times. See hallway posters for details.

F. Attendance Expectations: You are expected to be in class everyday. All School attendance policies as stated in the student handbook will be enforced at all times (End of Warning).

If a one day absence is known in advance, the student will notify the teacher days before the absence and make arrangements for assignments, tests, or quizzes. This includes any school function. If a student has an unannounced absence, then assignments can be turned in penalty free the first day back, while quiz and test points will be regained through other avenues. (Usually, the final exam is used as a make-up for a missed test, but other methods can be used on a case by case basis.) If the absence is a truancy, then no points can be made up.

Assignments late for no other reason except they are late are worth 2/3 of their original value for the first day late, 1/3 for the second day, and none for any day after.

G. Behavior Expectations: All School and District Policies as stated in the student handbook and letters from the school/district will be enforced at all times. (End of Warning). The teacher can ask a student to hand over any device that is interfearing with the student's ability to remain engaged in the lesson or classwork.

H. Assessments: The following is a summary of all of the different assessments for the first semester of the course. Students will be notified of any adjustments to these as the semester goes on. Second semester will be posted in early February.
