Special Problem #1: Would You Like to Take a Survey?
Purpose: To Plan, conduct, and analyze a short survey of a particular population of the student body.
Group Size: Up to 4
Due: _____________
I. Plan: Your group is to come up with a topic of interest and decide which portion of the school population you wish to give the survey too. Then you are to construct 3 questions based on the topic. Each question is to be constructed in complete sentences and free of question wording bias. At this time, avoid open-ended questions and make the possible responses categorical.
II. Conduct: Your group will devise a plan on how you will choose your sample. Then, you will proceed with giving the survey to those who you randomly choose.
III. Analyze: For each question, construct a frequency table, and an appropriate graph of the data (either bar or pie). You will write a couple of sentences about your findings for each question.
When you turn in the problem, you may do so electronically or physically. It will have the look of a short report and NOT of a homework paper. It will have the following:
1. Cover sheet, with project name, period, date, and the authors of the paper. If you wish to put some sort of appropriate picture on this page you may do so.
2. The next part will describe what your survey was about, what part of the student body was your population of choice, and a summary of how your sample was chosen.
3. For each question you asked, you will state it, show your frequency table, graph and analysis. You are to integrate it so that it looks like a book and not a homework paper.
4. Give a short summary conclusion of your findings. Remember not to use the word PROVE!
The grade of the project will consist of the following breakdown.
a) All required parts: 10%
b) Unbiased questions: 20%
c) Correct sampling procedure: 20%
d) Correct/appropriate Analysis 25%
e) A summary supported by the data: 10%
f) Team member participation: 15%
