Back to Data Website
US Bureau of Labor Statistics Quick Start

Link: www.bls.gov

Here is a simple tutorial to help get you started.  YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBSCRIBE TO ANYTHING TO GET THE DATA, so ignore the top right of the home page.

Once at the site, click on the Databases & Tables tab at the top.

Next, scroll down until you see Average Price Data.  Click on the star that is on the right side of that row.

You will see a checklist of all sorts of items people buy.  Just for fun, check the Whole Chicken box.  Then click on retrieve data on the bottom.

In a moment, you will get a data table.  It will list the US monthly Average price of fresh, whole chicken (per pound) from 2000 to 2010.

You should see a small check box that says graph.  Click on it and then click on the little GO bubble.  You now will get not only the data, but a graph of it.

Not really into chicken, then go back and get the prices of something else on the list.  For more options, go back to the main Databases & TABLES menu and click the green tab next to the star.  It will bring up a more detailed selection menu that you can use.  ( you will need JAVA to view this)

The site has all sorts of data that you hear in the news.  Have fun checking it out.
