A. Key Concept of Course: This AP course is designed to introduce students to the
major concepts and tools for collecting, analizing, and drawing conclusions from data. The course will follow the outline given by
the College Board, which matches the California State Standards for this course.
B. General Plan for Course: The focus of the course
is to prepare students for the May AP Statistics Exam.
C. Recommended Materials: A binder with paper (spiral or 3-ring) is recommended
for this course. A graphing calculator is required for this course. Many students already own one or plan to purchase
their own. There will be calculators avaliable to check out to students. Please notify me if you plan on checking out
a calculator so we can have the appropriate number of calculators ready. Graph paper and color pencils are useful but optional
items.
D. Textbook Used: The Practice of Statistics, Third Edition
E. Teacher Avaliability: I am in my class for extra help on
Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at lunch. Other times may be arranged if notified in advance.
F. Attendance Expectations: You are expected
to be in class everyday. All School attendance policies as stated in the student handbook will be enforced at all times (End of Warning).
Students are responsible for informing the teacher if an absence is coming up as well as turning in any assignments due on the day
of the absence. Students out for unforseen absences are responsible for getting any notes taken as well as getting the assignments
that were missed. (Ask your fellow students or check the website.)
G. Behavior Expectations: All School and District Policies as stated
in the student handbook and letters from the school/district will be enforced at all times. (End of Warning). Take off hats
as you enter the room. Turn off and put away ALL electronic devices for the duration of the class.
H.
Assignments/Assessments: Your grade will consist of the following elements.
1. Units: Each unit will cover a fundamental topic in the book. Most are chapter based, but a few are mixed.
Unless told otherwise, each unit will be broken down as follows:
a) Assignments (15%)
b) Quiz (15%)
c) Unit mini-project (15%)
d) Unit Exam (55%)
You will be given more specific guidlines for each item. Assignments can be turned in the next
day due to an excused absence. The Unit exam will make up that unit's quiz if you have an excused absence on a quiz day.
2. End of Semester Exam: All units done during the semester will be covered on this exam. The end
of semester
exam will also be used to cover any
exam that you missed due to an excused absence. The exam will be 15%
of the overall semester grade.
3. Misc. Items:
5% of your overall grade will consist of things done during the first 5 minutes of class.
THOSE WHO ARE TRUANT OR REMOVED
FROM CLASS BY THE TEACHER GET NO MAKEUP ON POINTS LOST DUE TO MISSING CLASS. BEING LATE TO CLASS DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANY EXTRA
TIME FOR EXAMS OR QUIZZES.
While there is NO EXTRA CREDIT for this class, each one of you starts off with a 1% bonus. Bonus
is explained on page 2.
J. Citizenship: Citizenship will be assigned as per school policy. Consequences for
tardies and truancies will also be assigned as per school policy.
